Patrick Connell gets first ASPHALT MEDIA win
December 29th, 2023 | 8:36 PM CT

Patrick Connell got his first career ASPHALT MEDIA win during Round 2 of ASPHALT MEDIA "Wacky Night" at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park with the Lucas Oil Off Road Pro 2 Lite Trucks. He won the race in the most wild way imaginable.

Team owner, Marty Cmejla, was dissappointed when he saw that the schedule for the night would be wacky car-track-combos. He would be having even more fun attending his grandparent's Christmas celebration. He knew he would have Patrick Connell racing in whatever races there were available.

Once it was race time, Connell was already registered in the session. Connell forgot to turn on his mcmiracing.com #46 Pro 2 Lite Truck. Instead, he was in the #777 NAPA Auto Parts/Beckman Designs truck. Despite being signed to the team, this meant he couldn't be on MC Motorsports for the race. But, Cmejla said that if he equips the correct paint and refreshes Trading Paints, he would be all good. So, he did.

Connell was fast in practice getting a feel for these cars for the first time EVER. Connell would qualify 11th out of 28 trucks: solid for his first time. The race would begin. Marty Cmejla would turn the Twitch stream on at his grandparent's living room TV. The whole Cmejla family would be watching. Connell would climb his way impressively all the way up to 5th for the first competition caution at Lap 30. There would be another Competition Caution on Lap 58.

Connell would pit for 4-fresh tires with a clean truck with some scratches. Connell restarted in 5th. There was 20 laps to go, and he was up to 3rd. He was being chased down by Wesley Napier, Austin K. Mitchell, and Elijah Parker. He would fend off these guys, up until Lap 58. But, due to Ethan Vietvu and Michael Mitcham battling hard for the win, owner Robbie Devore decided to keep the race green to not force overtime. With this, Connell was dissappointed. Overtime would be his best chance to win, as he was 7 seconds back.

But, the white flag came out, and the 2 leaders were battling hard. Connell, had been chased down by Parker and Napier. He was now in 5th entering Turn 3. But the leaders wrecked each other. They were parked on the frontstretch. Slowly gaining was Connell and the two others. Sadly, Connell was in 5th.

Mitcham tried to reverse across the line. Connell was full in the gas. Parker and Napier slammed into the wrecking cars. The seas parted for Connell to ramp over everyone and win the race with 2-tires in the air! Marty Cmejla watching from home was absolutely freaking out with his family. Connell got interviewed right away by Devore. He was speechless.

Connell crossing the line 1st for the first time!

This was Connell's first ASPHALT MEDIA race with MC Motorsports, and he won, JUST after he got signed to the team. This was Connell's 20th ASPHALT MEDIA race.
